Are there any Michelin star restaurants in Ottawa?
Not yet. The Guide simply hasn't arrived here — though the case for it keeps getting stronger.
The Michelin Guide's Canadian footprint is still small: Toronto (since 2022), Vancouver, and Quebec (which joined in 2025) are currently the only Canadian destinations Michelin inspects. Ottawa isn't part of the Guide at all right now — which means no restaurant here can hold a star, a Bib Gourmand, or even a basic "recommended" listing, regardless of how good the kitchen is. That's a gap in Michelin's coverage, not a verdict on the city's food.
Given how quickly the Guide has been expanding across Canada, Ottawa arriving on the list in the next few years isn't a stretch. If that happens, a handful of the city's restaurants are already doing the kind of work Michelin inspectors tend to reward.
If the Guide does eventually inspect Ottawa, these are the restaurants most likely to be part of that first conversation.
-
Atelier
A restaurant that serves nothing but its own seven-course tasting menu, built around molecular-gastronomy technique, from Chef Marc Lepine — a two-time Canadian Culinary Championship winner. The kind of singular, technique-driven concept Michelin has rewarded in other cities.
-
Antheia
Chef Briana Kim's fermentation-focused follow-up to her acclaimed Alice, running its own tasting menu on a fermentation calendar rather than the seasons — exactly the kind of chef-driven originality inspectors tend to notice.
-
Stofa
A quietly consistent room from Chef Jason Sawision, with a table d'hôte menu that changes regularly. The kind of unshowy, ingredient-driven cooking that often earns a Bib Gourmand rather than a star.
-
Aiāna
Chef Raghav Chaudhary's tasting menu frames Canadian terroir through a multicultural lens, in a room built to match the ambition of the food — a strong match for the kind of destination dining Michelin tends to single out.
This is a prediction, not a claim — none of these restaurants currently hold any Michelin designation, because Michelin hasn't looked at Ottawa yet. For ongoing coverage of where Ottawa stands, see Ottawa Michelin Watch.
